The Ashdown Poetry Slam Team was organized in 2010. Classroom Poetry Slams in Ashdown had been taking place for several years in the Freshmen and Junior Classes, but an official team of poets had yet to be organized. In 2010, all of that changed. And in 2012, the Ashdown Poetry Slam Team was able to present the First Annual "I Am Poet" Poetry Slam. It was a poetically powerful display of copasetic creative expression. As the saying goes, "You should have been there!"
Great things are planned for this team as we continue to write, practice, and perform. We know that words have power and WE will continue to use poetic expression to change the world for the better. Poetry Slams, performance poetry and spoken word are quickly gaining popularity across the World, and Ashdown's "I Am Poet" Poetry Slam Team is prepared to put words on page, deliver them on the stage, and all the time keep the audience poetically engaged, because "It's All Good".

End-of-Year CELEBRATION The first official year (2011-2012) of Cafe Copasetic's "I Am Poet" poetry slam team was a success. To celebrate our achievements, we gathered, ate (of course), and had fun (for details . . . you had to be there).
We finished watching the profound documentary Louder Than A Bomb, dined on pizza, chips, fruit drinks, and pops, AND finished the celebration with the Official Poetry Slam Team Graduate Medals given to our 2012 Senior Poetry Slam Team Members, AND Official Trophies were given to the top-five poets of our First Annual "I Am Poet" Poetry Slam. To all of our Poets and Poetry Slam Team, remember you have the license to speak in a profound and intelligent way, and the only way the State of Cafe Copasetic will revoke that license is when "Words No Longer Have Poetic Power" . . . and that is never. So Write On My Poets; Write On! ! ! |

The top five poets anxiously await the announcement of the First Annual "I Am Poet" winners. You have to love how they stand hand-hand, poetically united. Much respect to them all. This poetry "stuff" is amazing! Pictured left to right: Senior, Kennedy Holloman; Senior, Leverise Evans; Junior, Justus McMillian; Junior, Keara Dancer; and Junior, Jalessa Hurd.

Spoken Word Live at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center -
Little Rock, AR
On Thursday, April 12, 2012 a part of the Ashdown Poetry Slam travelled to Little Rock to see Spoken Word Live. We heard some inspiring poetry and performances and of course we had some fun outside of the actual Spoken Word Live event too! Check below to secondhand experience what we did, OR if you were with us, you can experience it all over again. As we like to say here at Cafe Cafe Copasetic "It's All Good".
